Who is behind E-VACTS?
E-VACTS (Electronic Vaccine Training Switzerland) is a training programme offered by the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+). It was developed in collaboration with LerNetz AG and Ecoplan AG, as well as with educational institutions and physicians, midwives, and medical practice assistants/coordinators.
The Federal Office of Public Health provided substantial co-funding for E-VACTS.
Why was E-VACTS developed?
Vaccination is the most effective means of preventing infectious diseases and offers substantial potential benefit both to individuals and to the population as a whole. Since vaccination in Switzerland is a personal decision, vaccination competence is a central pillar of that decision-making process.
Healthcare professionals play a central role as the first point of contact for the public when it comes to vaccination decisions. The higher a healthcare professional's vaccination competence, the better they can advise patients.
Currently, relatively little learning time is available for the topic of vaccination in the initial and continuing education of healthcare professions. This applies to most educational programmes at all levels (universities, universities of applied sciences, specialised schools, and vocational schools, as well as professional associations' continuing education offerings).
The National Vaccination Strategy (NVS) also identifies a need for action in initial and continuing education on vaccination. E-VACTS enables healthcare professionals to acquire or improve core competencies compactly and through self-study. Teachers can use the tool and supplement E-VACTS learning content with their own materials.
What makes E-VACTS different?
Most current educational offerings are limited to conveying biological/medical and technical facts. E-VACTS also addresses questions of attitudes and beliefs and their significance for counselling conversations and vaccination decisions.
E-VACTS delivers content interactively and emphasises problem-based learning, reflection, and diverse media formats. The learning content was developed on the basis of workshops with the professional groups concerned. As a result, the learning objectives are matched to the actual needs of the target audience and are highly practice-oriented.
